On September 21st 2013 the Island Divers crew at Ti Kaye Resort & Spa got their community involved for International Coastal Clean Up Day. This annual clean up campaign encourages people to take action by working together to stop the flow of trash at the source, before it has a chance to reach the water and entangle marine life and ruin our beaches.
Our passionate ocean lovers consisted of our Ti Kaye guests, General Managers, Dive team and local Beach Vendors. They came out in numbers to support the movement of "TRASH FREE SEAS". Recording a total collection of 9 large trash bags the team extracted the following items:
- 5 gallon bucket full of glass bottles
- An empty propane tank.
- A tyre
The clean up campaign led by Dive Shop Manager Robert Arthur, was concentrated in the areas of Anse Cochon bay, and Honeymoon Beach. Trash was pick up on the coast lines of these beaches as well as on the reefs. The information recorded was provided to the Ocean Conservancy. We will continue to do our part in protecting our marine environment, and have already circled this activity on our calendar events for next year!
